Marriage Preparation

The decision to marry is one of the most exciting and important decisions you will ever make. It involves many other decisions: whom should we invite? what should I wear? and dozens of others. Another important part of your wedding planning includes choosing for your wedding liturgy the readings, music, and prayers that reflect your faith, your hope, and your love for each other.  We hope that the scripture readings and prayers you choose continue to inspire you after your wedding, nourish your prayer life, and deepen your love.

Preparing for your wedding includes planning for the celebration, but most importantly preparing to live your commitment every day after the celebration. It is a time to reflect, to pray, and to share faith. Our parish team will help you prepare for this day and for the life to follow.

Arrangements for marriage can be made by contacting the parish priest eight months prior to the date of marriage. This will provide adequate time for documentation and the diocesan required marriage preparation program.

Marriage Preparation Programs

Holy Spirit Parish offers two marriage preparation programs for engaged couples and for couples contemplating marriage but not officially engaged. The first session runs September through October. The second begins January 16, 2011 and runs for 6 sessions. Cost is $150.

Information regarding the program is available by contacting the parish office. The registration form is available here.

Volunteers

The success of our marriage preparation program relies on the help of married couples who are willing to act as mentors to the engaged couples. Mentor couples will be required to attend an organizational/training meeting and also to walk with your couple throughout the six-week program. This is a rewarding experience for all couples involved as well as a blessing for your own marriage.

The number of engaged couples we will be able to accept is directly proportional to the number of married couples who will volunteer. We do not wish to turn anyone away. If you have been married for at least five years and feel comfortable sharing your experience with engaged couples, please consider volunteering for this important ministry.

If you are willing to serve as a mentor couple, please contact contact Arch and Lois McKay at 373-0993
