Baptism
- Baptism

Baptism is a celebration of our entry into the faith of a believing community, the Church. It marks an important moment in the life of each believer and in the life of the entire community, for the faith in which Christians are baptized is the common treasure of the whole Church. As a celebration of the whole Church, the rite of baptism for children expresses and nourishes the faith of the community.
The initiation into the sacramental life is for the most part the responsibility of the parents. Parents who request baptism for their children must be prepared to profess their faith and willing to undertake the duty of bringing them up in the practice of the Christian faith. They are to form their children in the spirit of faith and encourage them to follow Christ more closely. With the help of godparents, they will assist their children to fulfill their baptismal promises faithfully.
Parents and godparents exercise their responsibilities by their example of Christian living, family prayer, and their active participation in the celebration of the sacraments and in the life of the parish community. Parents prepare for the baptism of their child be renewing their own baptismal commitments to Christ. During the period of preparation, parents are encouraged to reflect on their faith, their relationship to Christ and his Church, their prayer life and their Christian living.
